Everyone I know seems to go on about how Autumn is their favourite season of the year. I mean for me, it’s alright, I’m not too fussed about it, but if I was put under pressure to choose, I would say I prefer Summer. If you know me, you’ll know I cannot handle cold weather (which is ironic because I live in the UK aka one of the coldest places ever lol) and currently the weather here in London has gotten ridiculously cold… And it’s only October!
I thought I would do something a little different today on my blog, something I haven’t done before. I feel like all over the blogging-sphere, everyone talks about their favourites or something along those lines, whether it be beauty, fashion, food, or a combination of all three, and I personally really like these videos/blog posts. You see, I’m quite nosey. I tell my friends all the time about how the only place I can study is my room because if I go to the library, I’ll get distracted by the people around me. I’ll be curious to know what book that boy is reading, or where that girl got her shoes from or even to the smallest, dumbest detail like what’s in her sandwich. I mean what can I say? – I really like (and am good at!) procrastinating! In all honesty, it’s ridiculous, I know, but like I said I’m super nosey.
This is why I like favourite videos/blog posts. It’s a chance for people to explicitly share what they’ve been loving for that week/month/season and it’s perfect for people like me who love to know things and are constantly curious/nosey. Of course, it’s not good for my bank account because if someone really praises a new foundation, or they talk about a top they got which looks super, super pretty, 9 out of 10 times I’ll probably go out and buy it.
Anyways, to stop myself from rambling on, I’ve complied a few things I really like at the moment and/or things I think are suitable for Autumn/Winter! I hope you enjoy this blog post as its a bit different but let me know what you think!
Lipsticks (especially Dark Lips atm!)
I love make up as much as the next girl, but I’m very lazy. Of course, when I go out, I tend to go full out with my make up. It’s a huge contrast to my uni days, where it’s a good day (and a slight miracle!) if I can manage to put some eyeliner on and fill in my eyebrows, otherwise I just go bare faced. I’m someone who has little patience – I love putting make up on but half way through I get bored and rush or just give up. But lately, I’ve taken more than 5 minutes with my make up and discover a new love for lipsticks. It’s probably because the other day, I was in the MAC store in Convent Garden with my friend and saw her buy some pretty lipsticks I was like to myself, “Jess, get your act together.” With it being Autumn, I feel like berry/dark nudes/(dark colours in general lol) are most appropriate. I’m not someone who’s into the barbie pink lipsticks anyways so this is kinda up my street. I have three lipsticks I want to share with you that I love. In the picture above, I’m wearing Rimmel Kate Moss’ Nude Collection in the shade 48. I bought it simply because I was in that mood where I wanted something different. Firstly, the colour itself is a browny nude (I don’t know if this picture is doing the colour justice) but anyways, it’s a colour which I don’t own, and secondly the finish isn’t really matte and I literally only own matte lipsticks so this was a huge risk in my eyes. But I really like it, I think it’s a statement colour, like I can go for quite light makeup on my eyes (more sleeping time for me!) and it still look good. The other two lipsticks I love is Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Collection in 107, a colour I’ve loved since I was like 18, and Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution Glastonberry, where the packaging itself is a winner for me.
What I’m Wearing:
Foundation – NARS Sheer Glow in Stromboli
Concealer – Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer in Light
Eyebrows – L’Oreal Paris Perfection Brow Artist Plumper
Lipstick – Rimmel Kate Moss’ Long Lasting Nude Collection in Shade 48
Top – Topshop (in the sale about 3/4 years ago)
You know how people say that girls are either ‘bag girls’ or ‘shoe girls’? I’m neither and I’m actually a ‘coat girl’ – which if it isn’t a real thing, I’m making it a real thing. I own way too many coats and jackets. From leather jackets, to smart black coats, to denim jackets, to khaki colour coats, camel colour, bomber jackets – you name it, I probably have at least one. The reasons why I have so many coats is because a) I believe you need different coloured coats and style to suit your outfit and b) it’s so damn cold here in England that I need a variety depending on how cold it is and where I am going… you know what I mean? I think that coats are great even when you don’t plan an outfit. I mean, especially if the coat is long, you can be wearing the most hideous outfit ever, but a coat will cover that up. You can go from bed to streets without anyone being any wiser – true lazy girl style. Above in the pic, I’m wearing a Miss Selfridge ‘boyfriend style’ coat which I got last year so I can’t find it on the site anymore to link it but I’m sure there are other alternatives. The colour is like a dark green, a colour I don’t normally wear as I mainly stick to my blacks and khaki but I’ve received so many compliments on this coat which only makes my love for this coat grow fonder. It does come with a detachable faux fur collar but I saw pictures of myself wearing it with the faux fur and I don’t know, I think it makes me look fatter than I am so I had to remove it.
What I’m Wearing:
Coat – Miss Selfridge (from their A/W 14 collection)
White T-Shirt – Topshop (can’t find the exact one, but this is similar!)
Skirt – Zara (last season, so I can’t find it on their site!)
Tights – Topshop
Boots – New Look (last year sale, although these are pretty much the same!)
Bag – Longchamp Le Pilage
I change my preference of hot drinks all the time but recently I really, really, really love hot chocolates. I mean, I don’t even like chocolate (weird, I know) but I cannot get enough of hot chocolates. Back in my youthful days, hot chocolates were my go to drink because I didn’t really like tea and I hated coffee. But then I got really into coffee and then my obsession soon turned to green teas so I haven’t drunk hot chocolate in a while. I think I like hot chocolates at the moment because they’re quite indulgent, so it’s like a nice treat to yourself, especially when you’ve had a crappy day and it’s cold and you’ve got 101 things to do. I think it’s also because hot chocolates, to me, scream Christmas, and I love Christmas – it just reminds me of Christmas and then I get super happy and all my troubles temporarily float away. But I think one of the biggest reasons why I like hot chocolate again is because now that I’m over 18 and I’m legal, I can legally buy alcohol. And I have discover putting liquor in hot chocolate. It is so good – I would highly recommend (if you’re of legal age) to add some Bailey’s or some amoretto in your hot chocolate. It’s a game changer and taste like heaven. Mmmmmmm!
If you’re my friend and you’re reading this, this will come to no surprise to you at all. I am literally the oldest 20 year old you’ll ever meet – I am literally like 20 going onto 90. I was talking to this boy the other day, and I was telling him there’s no way I’ll be able to stay up past midnight hanging out with him cuz I’m just old and he literally laughed at me and has given me the nickname ‘Cinderella’.
But having said that, I’d like to think I’m someone who likes to be outdoors and doing things, especially in the summer – whether it’s shopping, touristy adventures, or just going to the park (Hyde Park forever lol). I really like being out of the house and doing things. But now that the weather is getting really bad, there’s nothing I like more than staying at home, nice and warm and cosy, with your friend or your family eating a pizza. I honestly think it’s not about where you go, like you don’t have to go out, nor is it about how much money you spend, but it’s about the company you keep.
